Located in the Reno/Sparks area of northern Nevada, Mark Borel & Associates was established to provide efficient, expert solutions to businesses and individuals. Our primary services include accounting, taxation, and business consulting. We also offer a host of specialty services to cater to the unique needs of our clients.

We serve a wide range of individuals, corporations, partnerships, and non-profit organizations and are experts in the accounting issues and tax laws that impact our clients. Meet Our Staff

Mark G. Borel, CPA

Mark G. Borel, CPA

President

A native of southeast Texas, Mark Borel has made Reno his home since 1999. Snow skiing, whitewater kayaking, boating and off-road exploring in the Sierra Nevada mountains are just a few of the many activities which attracted him to the Lake Tahoe area of northern Nevada.

Mark received his degree in Business Administration in 1984 from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas and has several years of experience in business management and marketing with Fortune 1000 companies (including time with Exxon and AutoZone). He received his accounting degree from the University of Nevada in 1992, and is licensed as a Nevada CPA (fifteen years), and a Texas CPA, with over twenty years of experience in public accounting. Besides general taxation, Mark’s areas of professional interest and specialization include choice of business entity, planning and implementation of asset protection and estate planning strategies, and international taxation.

Mark is a registered member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Nevada Society of CPA’s. He is a past member of Rotary International and has served on various nonprofit boards, including the Houston Chamber of Commerce as Executive Treasurer. He is also a certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor, and has been registered with Intuit since 1996.

Office Manager

California born and raised, Cindy joined the firm in 2004, after moving to Northern Nevada to be closer to her family. She is a talented quilter and enjoys all that the Carson/Tahoe region has to offer. She especially loves growing pumpkins and canning apple pie in the fall.
Cindy manages the firm’s daily operations and scheduling, and supervises our staff of Nevada accountants and paraprofessionals. She is the firm’s primary contact with our clients and business associates, fielding requests for information, coordinating the receipt and delivery of accounting and tax documents, and e-filing of tax returns. Cindy has several years of experience in office management and client services, and is a skilled professional who is dedicated to the concept of providing exemplary service, beyond the norm, to our clients worldwide.

Heidi Borel

Staff Accountant

A Los Angeles transplant to Northern Nevada, Heidi has lived and worked in the Reno area for over ten years. She enjoys mountain living and the high desert lifestyle, and spends much of her free time with her two young boys enjoying hobbies such as horseback riding, camping, boating, and snow skiing. Heidi is currently studying for the Enrolled Agent exam to obtain her EA Certification from the Internal Revenue Service.

Bookkeeper

You should have a verifiable work history with three+ years of relevant tax and accounting experience. CPA firm experience is preferable, but not strictly required. A solid understanding and experience of basic tax & accounting is required. You should exhibit a professional demeanor, with a “can do” attitude and be able to interact well with others. Expect heavy client contact. You should also have experience working with QuickBooks, Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Staff Accountant

A bachelor’s degree in accounting, with CPA firm experience is required. You should have a solid understanding of tax & accounting and be able to provide a verifiable work history which demonstrates two+ years of relevant tax and accounting skills. You should exhibit a professional demeanor, with a “can do” attitude and the ability to interact well with others. Expect heavy client contact. You should also have experience working with QuickBooks, Word, Excel, Outlook, and at least one major brand of professional tax software. We will consider you for this position if you are within 20 hours of graduation, and have interned at another CPA firm.

Internships in Accounting

We will consider you for an internship if you are a business major who has achieved 60 or more hours towards your accounting or finance degree. It is important that you exhibit a professional demeanor with a team attitude and have the ability to interact well with others. Experience working with QuickBooks is preferable but not strictly required. You should be able to demonstrate experience working with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
